The Norman Townies

Smokin' hot at the Blue Moon on the Paseo.

Music musings: drifting in and out of harmony with self, god, the universe, and mankind.

Daily meditation:

The true holy person who follows their practice and the words of the Buddha, who applies that teaching to their everyday life, will light up the world with their beauty. (The Holy Person, v381-382)
Their practice is key. Each of us separate and alone make up the belief that is each of us and the universe. The universal one is that which is each of us. Every one has a singular belief. Many share an idea of God. They attend the same services, the listen to the same teachers, they follow prescribed rituals. These things on the outside give the illusion of belief in the same higher power and yet individually there is only one true god. That one true god is yours and yours alone. When you practice your faith and your beliefs the world is aware. You shine from within and the reflection of that relationship is the loving force drawing in. Look now not to others but to the self to assure your relationship with your guiding force of the spirit.

Coffee musings:

there is a time when action is the only solution and the worse possible course thus no action can be the worst and best at once.

Daily meditation:

Dissolve your whole body into Vision: become seeing, seeing, seeing! - Jalaluddin Rumi
I do like Rumi. Ancient poet of the sufi's. Opening the eyes to see. Letting in the light and piercing the darkness to see. Lifting the veil as it were of the self to illuminate the soul. See ourselves.
There is a song the grateful dead sing, Terrapin Station. The stage is barely lit as they are playing, jamming and dancing. The band takes the audience to a new height. The place is rocking. Jerry is playing. The word Inspiration is spoken and the entire arena lights up in pure white light. Nothing can hide and the darkness is abandoned. Mystical, magical sight indeed.
This pure white light is the what will show us the way. Cleanse us of our darkness.

daily meditation

Buddha: If you do not tend to one another then who is there to tend to you? Whoever who would tend me, he should tend the sick.
Like a garden we grow. The seeds we stock and keep inside. We nurture them and help them take root and grow. Our gardeners are our friends and family. Indeed we are the ones in the end who decide which seeds we sow and bring to fruit but it is the influence of those around us that help us to become who we are. How can I be a gardener to others? How can my green thumb of life contribute and help my fellow man?
Water the seeds with the sweat of the brow and the shedding of tears.

Boxes in which our focus is enveloped. stepping outside the box has new meaning as we are absorbed in our boxes.

daily meditation

While the Tathagata, in his teaching, constantly makes use of conceptions and ideas about them, disciples should keep in mind the unreality of all such conceptions and ideas. They should recall that the Tathagata, in making use of them in explaining the Dharma always uses them in the semblance of a raft that is of use only to cross a river. As the raft is of no further use after the river is crossed, it should be discarded. So these arbitrary conceptions of things and about things should be wholly given up as one attains enlightenment. -Buddha
On this first day of this new year remember it is time to let go of all the things that have brought us to this place. Release the past. Forget the future. Be here now and present and ready for life. Live fully and wholly. Eat well, excersize, sleep, cultivate your heart for the relationships to come.

New years day. What a glorious time to be alive. We watched the monks destroy a mandala this evening. It was a wondrous sight. Create and destroy. Life grows. the ebb and the flow of what which makes us who we are.

Daily Meditation

The whole foundation of meditation is to make you so alert
that you can see the forming of seeds and desires and drop them. - Osho

The seeds of desire form and grow within us. How do we know these things early on? Once it is huge and controlling and a full force in life then I see it and want to be rid of it but it is too large to quell. Catch it as a seed. Find it early and let it go. I am ready.
