Morning Zen

Existing, existence, exist, cool word. lots of different places it can go. Not sure what that means. Thought of the exist until the next paycheck. Waiting hoping holding in place. Living for the paycheck, until the paycheck. It is not a fair assessment of life but the living we have chosen as a society and as a people and as a personal way of life. I have chosen to work and live and purchase and consume. And yes I stretched it as thin as good filo dough.
So how to be "advanced" and free of the constraints of society and living?

win the lottery...create the new Microsoft...marry Paris Hilton...however, peole tend to live within their paycheck, Britney Spears blew 60 mil in 2007...so does expanding the pay really solve the problem? and if you live a life of existing on very little, would you enjoy that life? oh grasshopper, you pose good question...is 'advanced' moving forward or really stepping back?

the role of the mind……

what comes to mind here…….

“The Blank Slate” ( Pinker)

“The Stuff of Thought” ( Pinker )

“No Two Alike” Judith Rich Harris

“The Nurture Assumption” Judith Rich Harris

“The Success Principles” ( M has this one ….i think she will share….)

“In Search of Memory” Eric Kandel ( and other books….)

Some of these may be in the “book menagerie”

so it is….all in the mind….the life we realize is all in the mind……every moment…..every dream…..every pain…..every happiness…..every sorrow……we live in the mind and nowhere else…..

find your passion and you find a way to make a “living” and do it…..( from “The Success Principles”)

“making a living”….what an absurd perspective….making a living….well, what level of material consumption does one want to pursue? This dictates the living needs………
This defines “making a living”. And what of retirement….after all those years of gaining knowledge our society encourages us to prepare for retirement….at 55 yet?

To me…..the encouragement in life should be……what level of contentment, happiness, companionship, joy, sharing life, does one want to pursue…..we are instead to be content with the physical…….nothing joyous in the physical for all life is experienced in the mind….every good feeling and bad feeling happens not in the arm, the leg, the heart, the liver, the stomach , the taste buds….it happens in the mind…….

Try thinking about something without thinking about words….those descriptive adjectives or nouns defining or describing some physical thing….in most instances ….on the other hand, the experiences of life are “feelings”….try to describe warm, cold, anger, happiness, and so on in “words”……
Meditation can take you there…as can some hallucinatories.....

Hum. So, those with the greatest experience and the greatest knowledge of life and their professions….quit! Instead, in this society, we should be preparing to “afford your healthcare and nursing costs”…..for the “length” or time period life is extended by medical “miracles” which sustain us through a period considerably beyond natural…so that those extended lives can provide a “living” for those younger…and medicine can control the pain of continued life though it be not productive or satisfying……...employment, medicine, pharmaceutical companies…..insurance company executives have the “success” as defined by society….(facitious)

whatever happened to living a good life… happy, productive in terms of making life an experience and not a "thing", MEANINGFUL instead of SUCCESSFUL……in the terms of “successful” as considered in this society?

“……….Suffering ( discontent and all associated stresses and discomforts ) comes from within, from the mind.
………….these are just intermediary cause of our suffering rather than the real cause, which is ignorance: not knowing what is beneficial and what is not beneficial; not knowing what will really produce our happiness and what will increase our unhappiness and suffering. Lack of knowledge, lack of insight- this is the real cause.” Pg.12 from “The Essence of Buddhism”, 2001, ( Traleg Kyabgon )

from my perspective we self define from the experiences and molding of others who have directed our lives, along with out society full of violence, hate, prejudice, lust ( this is not the same as physical or respectful admiration or attraction ), greed and so forth…..few can say they are really really happy…..

ok…..enough….

"...but the living we have chosen as a society and as a people and as a personal way of life."...but did you really choose this or was this just the country you were born into and stayed. I didn't choose it....but I was born here...one of the lotteries...and so far, have stayed. Would I move? I doubt it....would I choose to change it if I could...some things for sure....
you see, the country we are in is like the family we were born in to. If we weren't deserted as infants and put up for adoption, we are still, in many instances, quite drawn into that family...even if we were adopted. If we were deserted somewhere along the way by our family then it probably wasn't our choice either. There are millions of children both in this country and moreso in other countries, who had no choice......so, the great thing about living here, we have the choice of being good little cookie cutter conformists, or we can
"go your own way" ....as the song says.....
go your own way frequently produces the "fullest" experiences of life....there are so many ginger bread children....and adults for that matter....
"see how they run".....again, from the song...
best wishes...happy weekends....

Note: referencing "Go your own Way", this is actually about 2 people splitting up, you go your way, I'll go mine so to speak. Or is that what you mean, metaphoricly, society goes this way, but I will divorce myself from society's ways and go mine?....

" ...go your own way..."
is in whatever context one feels one is out sequence....out of
context...out of what is 'right' for the self....
society would definitely prefer we are twisted into the appropriate
figures....
on the other hand...to "go one's own way" would imply an escape from what is expected....
ever consider "free thought" ?
not part of the norm....the most creative in this world have not been conformist.....some escaped
on their own legal "highs" i.e. medication...while others escaped on the 'burning bush'....
