HashTag OklaEd
An Origin Story

Greetings Sequoyah,

I am not sure why but say HashTag and my first thought is to Corned Beef Hash. It is hard to find a good hash. Just the right flavors and consistency. Jimmy's Egg makes a pretty good corned beef hash omelet if you are ever inclined. The Lunch Box had the best Corned Beef in town but alas.

Oh yeah, I was talking about #OklaEd. If you are on Twitter on Sunday nights at 8:00 you know the education information overload that occurs. As our buddy Scott Haselwood says #amazeballs.
At the OTA conference one of the presentations was on the #OklaEd chat.
Take a look at the presentation at: https://www.icloud.com/keynote/AwBUCAESEITnv-d_1lvJAUAE9VtMG_gaKTU2CmLzLxlDo9HOvso3-Fanqw7Hi7dUykpZKvJQ__lqRoHZfdFJWP0hMCUCAQEEIKuv2Nkqkcvewbx5ZCwGGR9dA_hrolKJRaz1RX3CWdQA##OKLAED

Thanks and don't forget to be awesome,

Andy

OzoBots
More then a toy

Greetings Sequoyah,

over the next few little whiles I hope to be sharing some of my experience at the OTA/Encyclomedia conference. If you have not been following the progress on Twitter do a search for #OTAEM15 to see lots and lots and lots of great information.

One of the coolio things I saw were the OzoBots (http://www.ozobot.com/). These neat little programmable robots follow basic commands. Draw a colored path and they follow it. Great for science, math, and art.

Thanks and don't forget to be awesome,

Andy

Blogger
Make a Link

Greetings Sequoyah,

I have been following the progress of the #epscohort15 and their technology adventures. There is a lot of great blogging happening. It is really neat to see technology in use. I am getting some great ideas too. If you have not had the opportunity search the #epscohort15 on twitter to see links to blogs. Several of our teachers are actively posting their experiences. I hope it continues even after the required class.

One of the things I have notices in many of the blogs is the lack of the Link. People are taking about websites, hardware, and apps. Putting in a link to a website is a great way to direct the user to more information.

See my blog post on how to insert a link in blogger.

Blogger Links

I am reading a lot of really great blog posts about technology. It is great to learn about new sites and software and how teachers can infuse the technology into the classroom.

No offence to the outstanding teachers creating these posts but most of you are missing a vital component in the blogging process. It is Link. When a website is referenced in a blog post is it important to insert a hyperlink into the post. This way your readers can easily click the link and access the information. It is like citing the resources in a research paper.

To put in a hyperlink in blogger there is a button on the main Toolbar called Link. You can highlight text and make a link. I like to copy and paste the website address from websites so users know where the link goes before they click on it as well.
Thinglink (https://www.thinglink.com)

On a side note I find it very interesting that the state department of education does not have technology as a focal point for instruction. Under Sandy Garrett the technology department was extensive and highly effective. With the advent of Barresi the entire technology team was dismantled. Under the new leadership there is still no technology team in place. If it starts from the top down and we want to infuse our teaching with technology we need a great team of educators in place teaching teachers.

Life Hacks
Shortcuts to Living

Greetings Sequoyah,

I am putting together my presentation for the OTA Encyclomedia Conference. It is Life Hacks - An Educators Guide.

What is a Life Hack? Basically any trick that makes life a little easier. I did not expect it to get so nebulus. Researching things the concept just kept growing and growing. I have no idea how to even begin the presentation yet.

I put together a ThingLink for organization and links. Take a look at https://www.thinglink.com/scene/706566390714204160

Thanks and don't forget to be awesome,

Andy
