The best and the brightest thinkers of our age share knowledge. It is really awesome. If you have not watched a TedTalk the one to start with is Sir Ken Robinson. (http://www.ted.com/talks/ken_robinson_says_schools_kill_creativity?language=en) It is really a must see for any educator.  The TedTalks have evolved over the years. EdTed (http://ed.ted.com/) is a great new feature. There is a free registration for the site. From there teachers can create lesson plans around a TedTalk or any YouTube video. The interface is intutive and easy to use. They send a highly detailed email with directions too.  Get out there. Get watching. Get Creating! Seek

That is another of the strange dicotomy. Seek and you will find they say and then it is when you stop seeking you will gain in the very next breath. Maybe the seeking has just been a distraction from what was there all along. The process of removing the blinders as it were.

TTT - Why Blog?

Technology tips and tricks on a regular basis. View this email in your browser Why Blog Writing is a process Hello Sequoyah,  What is a blog? A word formed by the coming together of the words web log. A blog is a platform. To blog is an activity. Blogging is fun. Do you blog? Do you Vlog (a video blog)? Why? Why not?  Blogging is something I would like to explore here on a regular basis. I believe it is an invaluable tool for education and personal growth.  I started a blog at the Sequoyah Google Account we use for the calendar. I would like to see it become something. I am not sure what but something. Being

Wondering always how to be with others. Certainly, be yourself is what we are told. But really being ones self is not a good way to walk through the world if and when that way is selfish and self centered. Listening to the david foster wallace commencement speech yesterday. Much on how to go out into the world and be authentic. 

On the Phone

So with the changes in education and technology our way to doing things has changed. Five years ago if you were in a meeting and someone was on their phone they were playing a game or texting. Today if you are in a meeting and someone is on their phone they are doing a live tweet of information (hopefully).

How can we use the phone in the learning process?
How we harness the technology for teaching? Notice that Dr. Bendick is addressing the group and Cordell is on his phone. Sending a tweet about her key points and adding his own thoughts to the process. Teachers would once be tempted to yell, "Hey, get off your phone." Not anymore.

15%

So I am currently getting a 15% open rate on my daily technology tips. Two weeks ago it was at about 35%. I am wondering if there is something wrong with the MailChimp system and not being able to see the openings or if I am just not reaching people. 113 people on the list consisting of teachers and staff in our building.
So I produce a daily technology tip. You can see them in this blog. Websites of interest. Helpful guides along the way. Answer questions. Why only a 15% open rate?
What am I doing wrong? What can I do differently to engage the audience? What do people want? What do they need? How can I better help in the learning process?

TTT - Voice Typing in

View this email in your browser Voice Typing Transcription in Google Docs Hello Sequoyah,  I just ran across this help article (https://support.google.com/docs/answer/4492226) on voice typing in Google Docs. I have not tried it yet but it looks very promising. Do you use your phone to dictate? Now you can use a microphone at the computer to type. Oh yes, did you know if you do not have a microphone you can plug headphones into the microphone jack and speak into the earpiece?
