New Year

Life gets hectic as we know and experience. It is amazing how at times it feels like just a blink and time passes and passes and it gets away.

Resolutions maybe this year, who knows. What is the intent? Not the will do's and will not do's but how to live life. should be interesting to see.

I got a Contour Head Cam last week. It is an extreme sports type camera that mounts. I made an ornament last night as a test run. Pretty cool.

I have a google plus page for the studio now. Looks like it may be a good resource.

Well I turned 44 last week. At twenty I did not expect to be here now. It is really pretty good.

I have been working on my finances. Getting things in order. Saving a bit. Put some into a Roth IRA. Paying a bit more each month on the house. Starting a new truck fund. Hoping by having some in savings when the time comes for a new vehicle I will have a good start.

In my mind the next thing I really need to focus upon is health. Getting healthy. Get rid of some excess weight. Walk and ride a bit more. Eat well.

Spiritually I believe I am a pretty good place. Keep doing those things that bring peace.

Keep on keeping on I suppose.

Want vs. Need vs. Don't Need

I have got it in my head I want a motorcycle. It is one of those things that becomes a focus and consuming. Think about it. Look for one. Desire. Weigh cost/benefit analysis.
It is like wanting an Apple Computer. Wanting a new hunting rifle. Wanting a convertible. Wanting a Viking Range. The wants flow through to pass and rise again.
Learning to take action on need and want? Probably not. That one fellow said it leads to suffering. Desire.
Interesting stuff.

Beard

The Tree and Leaf Clothing Grow a Beard contest is in full growth. The first three weeks were slow moving and made the days seem to linger. The past two weeks have picked up the movement to the what has become normal pace of crazy. It seems we are all moving so fast it is hard to keep hold. The wheel is turning you know. Can't let go, can't hold on, can't go backward, can't stand still or something like that.
Keep an eye out for the thunder and the lightening.

Blogger has a new look. Very nice interface. More streamlined. Looks like it will be easier to use. I believe with all the social media options in life Blogs really have to struggle to keep up. Twittter is easy for an idea. Facebook and Google + for contact and interaction. The blog is the history, the backstory, the breeding ground for thought and movement. Cultivate it.

Great post. Got me thinking tho. Maybe Starbucks is going to become like the Crayon. It is a brandname but there are other crayons out there. So instead of people saying lets go to the coffee shop they will say lets go to Starbucks, but really mean lets meet up at coffee slingers?

I have been following Kurt Sutter for a while now. I really dig his television show Sons of Anarchy. His blog is often just as good or better then his show. His insights into living are interesting and often shocking. He is not for everyone and those easily offended might not want to explore his writings but he blows me away. Looking forward to September and the start of the new season of SOA.

Coffee and chocolate

There is much in the world non seen or comprehended. Understanding escapes us and we are left to flounder taking solstice in the spirit. The daily movements and motions and prayers wonderous really in the moment. Little things pop up in the day to bring out a smile.
Opressive heat today. Strange how sweat dripping down my back makes me feel alive.
Remembering to enjoy the moment. Savor the flavors of the day and bask in the glory. Must also remember to do something each day to become healthier.

Renew

It is time for renewal. Time for implementing change to become better every day. Stagnation needs to end and allow for growth to continue. Odd that tragety brings about change. Reflection I suppose. Knowing that better care of the self can hopefully lead to better living. Just a little futher just a little bit more.

Memory

I good deal of who I am today comes from a time years ago when my life changed and I was a drift. I fell in with some of the most beautiful people. Beautiful. Friends. Brothers. We lived together and worked toegther. We bought a bus and went across America.
scotty was the man. He was the cohesive force in our lives. Bright and beautiful he shone.
I had a dream a long time ago. Lights or stars of heaven coelised together. Knowing those stars were souls and brothers and sisters swirling in harmony across the universe.
A light has been extenguished here on earth. A star in heaven has been born.

I went to see Thor last night. It was a toss up on working some or relax a bit. Went with relax a bit. It was a good movie. Not great. Dragged a couple of times but storyline was good and the realm of Asgard was explored nicely. Definitely worth watching but not out of this world.

Come to find out today that it is to become a new gallery/art space hosted by Mr. Wayne Coyne. It should be a hoot.

Artist Reception For Scott Henderson, Marvin Lee, Bobby Lee, Audrey Barcus and the Teen Advisory Council of the Arts Council of Oklahoma City Friday May 13, 2011, 6 - 10 p.m.   Oklahoma City Artist Scott Henderson, one of Istvan's top selling artists of 2010 will be returning for the May show. Henderson's formal art training was acquired at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. Henderson's work has been seen in many group and solo exhibitions locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. His work is highly collectable and can be found in significant public, private and corporate collections.   The artist's current body of work focuses on collage and mixed media with a focus on fantastic themes in correlation with self identity. Henderson's work presents a dichotomy between the comfortable familiarities of our environment and the veiled nature of reality. The current work is split into two concepts; individuation and archetypes.   Individuation is expressed through symbols, diagrams, multi-layers and textural imagery. The majority of the pieces in this show were created using a print ink resistance process gridded out into sections giving each one its own unique part of the whole. The found images, painting, photography, transfers and other media are manipulated to help stir the viewer's perception of the imagery intrinsic to the entire piece.     Marvin Lee is another Istvan Gallery favorite. Calling Marvin Lee a photographer would be way too easy. The camera is one of his tools, but so much more goes into the creation of his art. Marvin is a self-taught photo-artist born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. He attended the University of Kansas, Phillips University, and University of Central Oklahoma where he graduated with a B.A. in Education.   He settled in the Oklahoma City area in the mid-seventies after living in several different areas of the country, and is now a retired teacher living in Norman. He loves the 24/7 challenge of finding a fresh "photo-moment" as well as the even more daunting task of mastering sophisticated graphics-editing programs in an effort to enhance that moment, or even combining two or more of those moments into a new reality.   "I find that 'other side'; the shadows, the reflections, the surreal angles, the edgy colors. It's not something I go around searching for; it just has always presented itself to me. I see the beauty and mystery of everything around me, and try to convey that view through my art. I see the world as an artistic opportunity, and I dream of the perfect scene every night. I love it when my work creates an aesthetically pleasing element of surprise."   For an interesting familial twist, Istvan Gallery will be showing the print work of Bobby Lee, who also happens to be Marvin's son. Bobby Lee was born in Oklahoma City in 1984. He enjoyed being born there so much he never left. He has spent most of his life drawing, painting, taking photographs, making prints, writing music, writing words, making films and designing edible landscapes.   Lee uses art to chronicle his adventures in gardening, current events, and other people and objects he encounters. Lee earned a Philosophy degree with a minor in Political Science from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2007. With the academic world behind him for now, his focus since graduating has been on fostering his creative side. He aims to create and exhibit as much art, music and film as possible.   Lee likes to experiment with a number of artistic media. Recycled materials, like cardboard, scrap wood, fabric, tile, used concrete and other found objects that would otherwise end up in a landfill are often used in his work. Lee uses these materials not only because they are free, reduce waste and are a pleasure to work with; but also because they serve as an unspoken comment on an era in which garbage is one of the most abundant natural resources.   Rounding out the featured artists is Audrey Barcus. Barcus also works in linoleum and block cut printmaking, but where Lee's work is monochromatic with nostalgic themes, Barcus' work can be colorful and often whimsical. Barcus identifies herself first and foremost, as a storyteller. According to Barcus, "Stories, fact and fiction, have bolstered my imagination since infancy and are the driving force behind my art. I make art as an expression of stories, and as a documentation of my world. I feel that stories connect me to the world, and I hope that through my art the world may connect to me." Barcus studied animation and illustration at the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, MD, for two years before transferring to the University of Tulsa to study printmaking. While she is proficient in many media, her focus has most recently been on textiles and printmaking.     Istvan Gallery is very excited about the May project for the small gallery. Gallery Owner Stephen Kovash will be working with the Teen Advisory Council (TAC) of the Arts Council of Oklahoma City to stage a separate art show titled "Reclaimed" featuring work from young artists in the Oklahoma City Area. All of the work shown will involve recycling and recycled materials.   Since 2007, the TAC has been a program of the Arts Council of Oklahoma City dedicated entirely to providing a comfortable arena for teens to voice their opinions, develop their leadership skills, and advance their potential as members of the community — all through the arts. The stated goal of the Teen Advisory Council is to "increase awareness of opportunities in the arts for teens, to encourage volunteerism in the next generation of Oklahoma City's Arts leaders.   Istvan Gallery owner Stephen Kovash will be working with the TAC alongside Advisors Jennifer Barron and Annie Macumber, teaching them the business of art from a gallery standpoint. The TAC will be responsible for most aspects of presenting an art show in a commercial gallery. Social Security

I was thinking the other day. Folks are worried about money and the budget and social security and all of that.

I tried to find how much money is in the Social Security Accounts right now but could not find a number.

What if the Social Security folks took all that money and gave everyone the amount they have paid into the system at this time. No interest, no extra, just the raw amount equal to that paid in. That would be it. The System could then close down and we would pay no more into and all the benefits from it would cease.

Would that work?

Things are moving along so very quickly. It seems strange at the pace. One week really flows into the next and while each moment is savored and enjoyed and mostly productive, there seems to be no time between the moments. I look up and the moon is full. I look up again and the moon is a sliver.

I have been sort of following the get out of debt philosophies. Trying to get everything paid off. Don't buy anything on credit. Save and save. With a bit of money in the bank and not too many expenses it is time for focus on some type of retirement plan. The Roth IRA looks good. Nothing is safe and that is disturbing. Rates on return are so very low making any type of long term investment just does not seem wise.

Not real sure what course to take. What are you doing to prepare for the future and for your retirement?

Google Voice

So podcasting is great fun. There used to be some cool free tools like GCast that would allow the user to call in and publish a podcast directly to a blog or else where on the web. They all seemed to go out of beta and start charging.

So looking at Voice you can embed a voicemail message. I have not tried it yet but in theory one could record a message and then post that message as a podcast on their site.

I have sort of rediscovered Google Voice. I have been using it since it's introduction. It converts voice mail to text and sends it as an SMS message and email. Makes it very easy to check voice mail. It allows calls to be made from the computer. New is porting where a mobile number can be used through the GV system instead of needing a wireless carrier.

Cool stuff. Check it out when you get the chance. Some things are a bit hinky. Being able to select all in the Inbox like in GMail is not a feature.

I got a new phone. My old one started being real hinky a few months ago and just kept getting worse. As a result I am looking at more of the new Google products and updating things. I need to update my blog layout and things here. Always makes me nervous to think about doing it and the possibility of losing things. So we shall see what happens.

I just figured out you can spin the mouse wheel to get the tiles to rotate instead of clicking on the rotate arrows. Best score thus far is 183 with 83 as my longest path.
