Coffee Cupping

There is a wondrous way to learn and develop your skills as a coffee conisuer. It is cupping. Cupping is the process of brewing coffee to perfection and then consuming the brew as it develops. The smells and flavors the look and feel of the various beans and brews. Our Local Coffee Slingers has cuppings every third Saturday of the month. I highly recommend this event.

*$'s Via

It seems to me to be entirely counter to the purpose of having high quality coffee. Why make an instant coffee? Why drink instant? for that matter why even go to star bucks except they are accessible. They had a free taste this morning. Yes, it is on my way and easy to stop on the way to school. Not enough time to make it to the Free Coffee Monday at Evoke or my desire for the good stuff at Coffee Slingers. The Via was flat, it was woody, and watery. Did you try it? What do you think?

Friday at Starbucks

I visited Seattle the first time in 1990. It was a very surreal summer. Discovering Seattle. Roaming the city. Drinking espresso and living on chocolate chip cookies. awakening again.
Starbucks has that remembering for me. It is a feeling and a reaction and an etching. That coffee. The time and the moments. Lifting out of the fog.
Howard is in charge again at Starbucks. Returning to their roots. They should have espresso machines that are not automatic. We don't get to see the grind. Tamp the puck. It is sad... But they have their colors back. The original "mermaid" has returned. Pike Place blend roasted on March 23 way old for coffee beans to still be good but way sooner then any other bean in the bucks.

Coffee Slingers

There is a new coffee joint in OKC. Coffee Slingers on 10th and Broadway next to the Alley Bike Shop. Nice location. Great windows. Restored building. The Cement counter tops are wicked as I am trying to get a friend to pour some.
Very good coffee. Conscience of the pull. Knowledgeable in the ways of crema. Can you say Barista, and not of the *$'s variety.

Checks

My little coffee shop will not take a check. It almost makes me not want to return. I ponder dropping the morning coffee stop in favor of putting that cash in the bank for next summer. Maybe this is the catalyst I needed?

Shades of Brown

cool little place on Perioa and 30 something in Tulsa. Latte art at it's finest.
Good cup. nice flavor. bit stronger perhaps. Also a cool little place for to get a cup.

There is something about being out of town that makes visiting coffee places special. Really seeing the place. Local folks hanging out and talking and sharing good times and good vibes. I wonder why don't we have a place like this at home. And then I remember that we do. I think the newness and freshness of a fourin place brings that out whereas we are just used to our local places with flavor and folks.

The Coffee House on Cherry St.

A latte from the Coffee house on Cherry St. in Tulsa. It was good. Nice bean. Full bodied and flavorful. Cool little spot too.

Coffee

BrewHaHa has movie night on Wednesday's. Spiderman is showing. Wireless internet. Good stuff. Decent coffee. Not the best in town. but Spiderman, can't go wrong.
Heard today from an old friend. very nice.
Revelations...
I had a revelation of sorts the other day. Told and then realized I can not make a decision. Not to say I am not capable of doing so but I can not decide. I choose to get run over by the bull as opposed to choosing either horn. I turn to others to make a decision for me. From going out to eat to life altering choices. Interesting to say the least.

Coffee Cup

I made a french press pot of coffee at the studio. Peet's Major Dickason's Blend. Very good Stuff. Most tasty in the french press. I put in two sugars and stirred with a chopstick. The lighting and the reflection of the ceiling in the brew was just awesome. I had to get a photo.

coffee rant

I just read an article in the paper about coffee night at the Turkish Cultural Center. I love Turkish coffee. It is awesome cooked up with cardamom and sugar. I do so wish one could go into a coffee shop and order a Turkish coffee. To order a cortadito (great Cuban coffee with carmalized sugar, found at El Diablo in Seattle). Instead you can get a latte or a con panna or a blending milk shake at coffee shops around town. Granted more independant shops are opening around the city see my custom google map of indie coffee shops in OKC. Also let me know if I forgot someone.

Victrola coffee

To cap off some of the Seattle highlights. Victrola Coffee. Up the hill in the trendy area. just east of broadway I think. Cool little place. Nice art on the walls. Good tables. Kind folks serving the coffee. I had a good con panna here. Nice full bodied coffee. I would think this would be a nice neighborhood place to go. Not really my neighborhood place but good nevertheless.
