Flippity
Create Flash Cards and Jeopardy-style Game

Hello Sequoyah,

With the beginning of the new school year the Flippity site is back in the forefront. Flippity allows the user to create a Jeopardy style game using Google Docs. They provide a template and interface. The instructor just needs to add the text. Check out Flippity at http://www.flippity.net/QuizShow.asp

They also have a great flip card interface.

Thanks and don't forget to be awesome,
Andy

Padlet
Posting on a Wall

Hello Sequoyah,

Over the weekend Mr. Galloway posted a tweet about Padlet. Padlet is a really nifty website. Padlet allows the user to create a wall. Anyone with the link can post on the wall. Not to worry posts can be moderated. Padlet would be a great way to collect feedback on tasks and assignments. Share information. Collaborate with a group.

The learning curve on Padlet is not steep at all. Simply double click on the wall to add a box. Link files and websites and more. Check out my getting started Padlet at http://padlet.com/aboatman/shg94t4uou

Is anyone using Padlet in the classroom? Be sure to share with us your success stories, trials, and tribulations.

Thanks and don't forget to be awesome,
Andy

TweetDeck Guide
A Resource

Hello Sequoyah,

On Friday we looked at the Mashable website with their great guide to using Twitter. Today we look at the Mashable site on TweetDeck.

TweetDeck is a twitter interface that allows multiple columns to be shown on the screen. I have my stream up from both my personal and business accounts. I have a list up of teachers I follow. I have up two or three hashtags streams too. I will add hashtag streams as topics of interest pop up. The opening of the Corning Museum West Wing was a great hashtag to follow for a couple of days.

TweetDeck is a great resource and an easier way to keep up with all the Twitter chatter. There are other resources online similar to TweetDeck, so look around a bit and you may find something you like even better.

Take a look at the Mashable article on TweetDeck:

Living

How do we live? What is our lesson in life? My friend would tell the story. Walking along and there is a pebble in front of you. Bend down. Pick it up. Examine it. Toss it over your shoulder. Continue walking. Life is a circle. The pebble comes back up during your walk. Toss it over your shoulder again?

Email post via Mail Chimp

The Mail Chimp posting worked. It does not have the best formatting but works. Wondering now if I should make another blog and get it set up and then forward all my past technology tips to that blog email post address. May be a lot of work but could make for a good record of information.

The email post to Evernote worked too. Except with the basic Evernote account you can only send five mails. This was not apparent on the Evernote site when setting up the email service but they sent an email this morning letting me know it is a trail basis.

If you are interested in Evernote and signing up for the service I can get a month of premium service for referrals.
Go to: https://www.evernote.com/referral/Registration.action?sig=83162d9ba3038b35790c3c014c557aeb&uid=4094042
to sign up and install Evernote. New users will also get a month of premium service too.

Twitter Guide
A Resource

Hello Sequoyah,

The Mashable website has a great guide to using Twitter. It is an older article updated about two years ago. Yes, two years is a huge long time in online years. So many things can change in a short amount of time.

I think the key to Twitter is simply using it. Get on. Look around. Have it going in the background throughout the day. It is like the news ticker at the bottom of the screen. If you see something of interest click on it. If you see someone tweet something you like follow them. Retweet it if it is something awesome.

Take a look at the Mashable article if you are having trouble getting started or are wondering what to do next.

Auto Post

I try to create a daily technology tip. I have been doing it for a couple of years now using MailChimp to mail my teachers tips and tricks. It is really nifty. There is an archive of posts through MailChimp. I have been thinking I really want to have my posts on the Internet too.
Racking my brain... Copy and Paste? ReDo? seems like a lot of work.
Then I remembered yesterday I was looking at EverNote settings. They have a email to post feature. So does Blogger. In theory add the posting email address to the MailChimp list. Then the MailChimp email should post automatically to the BlogSpot and to Evernote.
We shall see in the next couple of days...

Looking for good quotes today and ran across this one.

There is really something awesome about changing your mind, deciding to be who you want and how you want.

Ricky Bobby

Not sure if that is right. "If you are not first,  you are last.". It should be "if you are not first, you are not first".
I think it is often best to be last. But then I have never been one to be first.

Guide

Odd paradox thought about this morning. We look toward others as guiding light. People who have forged the way and are a guide of sorts. Selfbhelp gurus and made it millionaires. And yet we know the each persons path is their own . Each must find their own path. And the road less traveled like that. If I knew the way I would take you there.

Ice Cream Social

Several years ago I wanted to try Graeter's ice cream. It was going to cost a lot for shipping so might as well order a bunch to try it all and share. So the Ice Cream Social was born.

Every year around this time. Ray and I buy a bunch of ice cream and invite everybody over to the studio for a scoop or two. My mom usually bakes a cake and some of the ladies in the studio bring some brownies. It is an opportunity to get together and hang out for a bit which really does not get to happen all that often.

So come by the studio (1218-C N. Western Ave.) on Sunday, October 26, between 2:00 and 5:00. Have some ice cream. Relax.

We are in the process of building a mobile glass studio and are planning on giving it a test run on Sunday too. So there may be something new and exciting to see on the glass front.

Also be sure to mark your calendars for our Annual Holiday Home Show. We hold our home show every year in conjunction with my Aunt Pat at With Joy Nativities. The Home Show is December 5, 6, and 7.
